Restored Representations / cosas rotas

Using a mixed technique that combines torn photographs of ceramic objects with delicate golden thread embroidery, Livia Marin, in her series ‘cosas rotas,’ challenges us to find beauty in breakage. Marin establishes a game of evocations inspired by the Japanese Kintsugi technique, aiming not to restore the ceramics but the photographic paper itself. The representation thus becomes the object of repair, inviting us to consider the need to recompose not only physical elements but also those of the imagination.

These pieces prompt us to reflect on repair and breakage as concepts and practices that transcend cultures and eras, revealing a universal concern for permanence and transformation. Art, therefore, serves as a vehicle that transforms absence into beauty and memory. These works assign new meaning to repair, not as a strategy for preservation but as the manifestation of a desire for creation.”
